Kompong Phluk and the Inundated Forest

During the high-water season (October to January), Kompong Phluk fishing village is inundated and remains under several meters due to the increase of the Tonle Sap water level. It is the best season to visit that village and an alternative to the visit to the temples.

From Siem Reap, transfer to the local pier at Tonle Sap lake, in the area of the Roluos temples, then board a first motor boat to reach Kompong Phluk in aroud 30mns (depending on water level). Boat tour in the main where one can witness the daily life going on quietly, then stop at the pagoda, only hard-built construction of the place.

After a visit to the pagoda and meet the local monks, you may do a good deed and make a donation of school supplies, bought on the spot, to the children of the school. Then board a small oar-boat for a tour to the inundated forest. Fish ponds placed in the forest will recall you that the main activity of the village is fishing.

After that unusual trip in that ephemeral place, back to the village where the catering possibilities are very limited but a small local restaurant exists. The boat is awaiting passengers for the trip back to the pier then transfer to your hotel.

Morning transfer to Tonle Sap lake then boat trip to Kompong Phluk in less than 1h. Visit the pagoda and the inundated forest in about 1h then back to Siem Reap. That excursion is scheduled on a 1-day basis and when back to Siem Reap, possibility to visit the Old market and the Chantier-ecole.

This excursion must be added to our programs Angkor Classic or Phnom Penh – Angkor due to the fares proposed.
