EXCURSION
TO BANTEAY CHHMAR

The excursion to Banteay Chhmar starts from Siem Reap by RN6 till Sisophon (102 kms - 2h drive) then fork to RN56 (58 kms - 1 h drive) towards O'Smach, border town with Thailand in the North. |

The trail untill Sisophon is in a bad state but the works for rehabilitation of RN6, portion Siem Reap - Poipet, have started (beginning 2006) and are expected to complete by 2008. The trail from Sisophon to Banteay Chhmar is very good. |

The Banteay Chhmar temple (XIIth) is mainly collapsed but some full sections of walls and galleries are in very good state of conservation as well as numerous bas-reliefs. The suroundings of the temple are open and the trail from Sisophon is very picturesque. |

* Programme: morning departure
by the trail towards Poipet and Thailand then take RN56 at Sisophon for
a better trail till Banteay Chhmar. Visit of the temple and lunch. City
tour at Sisophon before driving back to Siem Reap arriving in late afternoon. |
